Help us develop archaeology opportunities for serving personnel and their families.

Wings to the Past and the University of Lincoln are asking UK military personnel and their families to help them develop future projects.  Have a look through the Wings to the Past website,  for information on our past projects.  To see military personnel on our most recent project keep an eye out for the upcoming Time Team Dig at Norton Disney which will be on YouTube (Time Team Official) in early 2025.

Do you like history and archaeology, do you want to spend time with family, make new friends, build wellbeing and resilience and learn something new?  Would you like to know more about where you live?

Tell us your thoughts about why you and your family (if that is applicable to you - single personnel are very welcome) would like to get involved in 1 of our projects, what is important to you and what type of projects and activities would you like to take part in.

Your responses will help us to develop exciting new projects, all tailored to the Service community, it will only take 5 minutes and your responses are so important to ensuring we meet your needs.

Thank you in advance for your time!!!

Why are we doing this survey ?

The information from the survey will be used to develop bids for grants to support the development of projects for 2025 - 2027.

Where are these projects going to be?

In 2025, Wings to the Past have 5 projects in the planning phase with 2 of these linked to a current grant application aimed directly at supporting military personnel form a more resilient community.

One of the projects in the planning phase is hoped to run for several years and is based in Lincolnshire, this is a multiperiod site linked to an important and well known heritage site near Lincoln and will run over 2 weekends each summer, this will involve excavations in the form of test pits, working with the local community and community groups.

Another will be based on the west midlands, near to RAF Shawbury, Tern Hill Barracks and RAF Cosford and in the initial year will involve survey of the site through non-intrusive geophysical survey with excavation planned for the following year.

Other projects in 2025 will involve fieldwalking, excavation and places on the amazing Bishop Grosseteste University Summer School!!!
